Recipe 10: Soya Burgers

Whenever we think about breakfast, boring options comes to mind. But weekend breakfast require some indulgence and creativity.

Wanting to experiment with restaurant quality food and to impress my husband, I came up with soya granules burgers one Sunday.
And since then the recipe is a hit in my house.

Serve it with a side of tomato-lettuce-black pepper salad and an extra patty!

Ingredients:

  1. 2 cups soya granules (boiled and drained)
  2. 1 large boiled potato
  3. 1 cup chopped onions
  4. 4 green chillies chopped
  5. 4-5 lettuce leaves
  6. sliced onions and tomatoes (optional)
  7. 4 tbsp. mayonnaise (click to buy Cremica Burger Mayo)
  8. 4 tbsp. tomato ketchup
  9. 2 tsp. zeera/cumin powder
  10. 2 tsp. lemon juice
  11. 2 tsp. black pepper powder
  12. 1 tsp. ginger paste'
  13. 1 tsp. red chilly powder
  14. besan/chickpea for binding
  15. salt to taste
  16. burger buns

Method:

In a large mixing bowl, add soya granules, potato, onions, green chillies, ginger paste, lemon juice, zeera powder, red chilly powder, black pepper powder, salt and enough besan for binding.
Form patties according to the size of the buns and shallow fry them in a pan.
Lightly toast the burger buns.
Spread tomato ketchup on one side and mayonnaise on the other of the buns.
Place 1-2 lettuce leaf.
Place a patty on the lettuce and top it with slices of onion and tomatoes.
Place the other half of the bun.
Serve warm.

Tip:

  • One beaten egg is also a good option for binding the patty mixture and enhancing the burger taste.
  • One egg sunny side up/omlette can be placed with a slice of cheese inside the burger.
