Things I Learnt with Pregnancy and Post-Partum: Lesson 5

5. Power

Firstly, I have come to realise the power of god and nature.

All I did for those 9 months was eat and keep a good routine with health and fitness. How those tiny legs and arms, body and internal organs, eyes and nose took shape, is beyond my comprehension.

Science may have lots of answers to how a human being is born in stages. Yet, nothing can explain how it actually does, cells join in a pre-fixed systematic programme to form exactly the same human form.

Secondly, I feel that I have the power unlike men in the world to create a new human being. I feed my baby from day one. Its unbelievable how not only a human being is created but his/her food for sustenance is also provided by the creator's body.

Thirdly, I feel that I am special and powerful than others because I can better understand the unspoken words of Daisy.

Lastly, I feel powerful when I impart knowledge to her by constantly talking to her and explaining mundane things and items that lay in the house. For Daisy a chair, table, clothes, rain, tree, leaves, flower, etc. is all unknown. Everything is new to her. Why does flower feel soft and a spoon feels hard but smooth? She feels the colors and patterns on pillow cases and bedsheets, and looks with amazement at new objects. It is new for me as well, to see someone from Babyland enter my house and trying to gather knowledge about life on earth each minute.

Soon I will begin reading to her and experience the joy of story-telling each night. I have dreamt of Daisy being a voracious reader with an appetite for knowledge and information, and bent towards being more informed and awake!
