I am not a South Indian. So, whatever I know about Poriyal is that it is a vegetable stir fried dish having coconut, curry leaves and minimal masalas.
I tried my hand at Beans Poriyal and tweaked it according to my taste and came out with quite an appetizing dish that goes well with roti as well as rice.
So, here is my unconventional beans poriyal recipe.
I call it "unconventional" because while the dish does have some of the key ingredients of traditional recipe, a few additions make it completely different.

Ingredients:
- 3 cups chopped French beans
- 2-3 green chillies
- 10 curry leaves
- 1/2 cup crushed raw peanuts
- 1/4 cup desiccated coconut flakes
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice
- 2 tsp. mustard seeds
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. haldi
- 1 tsp. black pepper powder
- vegetable oil for cooking
- salt to taste
Method:
In a kadhai heat some oil.
Temper mustard seeds and wait till the crackling sound stops.
Now add the crushed peanuts.
On low heat, sauté peanuts for 1 minute.
Add curry leaves and stir for 30 seconds.
Add the chopped beans.
Stir and cook for 5 minutes.
Now add green chillies, salt and haldi.
Cook till beans are fully cooked.
Now add sugar, black pepper powder and coconut.
Mix well.
Add 1/4 cup water.
Stir for 3-5 minutes.
Add lemon juice.
Switch off heat.
Serve hot.
